2012 LGBT SportsFest promises to deliver heart-pounding fun
Coinciding with the festivities of Denver’s 2012 PrideFest, the 3rd annual Colorado LGBT SportsFest will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 16, in Congress Park.
Presented by Team Colorado and Denver Outgames, the Colorado LGBT SportsFest date was relocated to PrideFest weekend to allow for contestants and fans to participate in the event along with their other PrideFest activities. Producer R. Tony Smith states that SportsFest will be “a great way to complement your PrideFest weekend activities.”
Various Denver LGBT sport groups will be represented in SportsFest, including Boulder Babes Rugby, Colorado Gay Volleyball Association, Denver Frontrunners, Denver Area Tennis Enthusiasts, Colorado RUSH Rugby, Denver Gay and Lesbian Flag Football, and Swimming Queers United in Denver.
Scheduled events for SportsFest include a FUN RUN, Flag Football competition, swimming events sponsored by SQUID and the annual CGVA tournament. Along with these events, spectators are encouraged to bring picnics and outdoor activities such as croquet, badminton, ladder ball, horseshoes and twister.
Offering lots of room to be active and a positive, encouraging atmosphere, the SportsFest in Congress Park hopes to provide all families an opportunity to enjoy Pridefest in Denver. Additional activities will be added up to the day of the event in Team Colorado and Denver Outgames’ efforts to provide fun options for every person attending SportsFest.
Team Colorado also hopes to educate attendants of SportsFest about Colorado’s large LGBT sport community, and upcoming Denver LGBT sporting events that include the 2012 Gay Bowl and the North America Outgames, tentatively set for the summer of 2016. ]
